Handling the 3D CAD information

How MechworksPDM handles CAD information

Each time you save a CAD document, MechworksPDM collects the available data about the current document from the CAD to save the information.

The information may include physical properties, hierarchical relations of the type 'contains' which are vital to drawings, assemblies and sub-assemblies and system information like date, time, user etc... A journal of events is also created to trace all changes to all the properties. Most important, you are given a chance to add information about custom attributes that are valuable to you but are not necessarily exposed directly by the CAD (material, cost, etc...)

All the information gathered is stored into the database to re-create the same hierarchical relations of the type 'contains' that you naturally established by inserting one part or assembly into another assembly or drawing. This process does not require any intervention by the user as MechworksPDM can collect all the necessary information directly from the CAD in a transparent way. This approach to data gathering allows you to store data in a transparent mode at save time and be able to browse the database as a hierarchical structure afterwards.

MechworksPDM is a non-intrusive tool that handles all I/O interface while exposing itself as the main control panel for all your projects.
