Link Mode

Link mode

The mode can be set in the advanced tab of the Options.

The Link Mode enables MechworksPDM to manage and synchronize the revisions of parts/assemblies and the related drawings.

You may disable this option and perform some operations manually anytime.

It is however possible to a member of the "DBWorks Admin" group ( Super administrators ), to override the limitations applied in the behaviour of the part/assemblies when a linked drawing is present.

Definitions

1.A document is LINKED to another document if there's a PARENT<->CHILD relationships between them and if both documents share the same STATE and  REVISION VALUE.

2.A group of documents linked each to any other is a LINKED GROUP

Assumptions

1.There may be many drawings containing the same part/assembly

2.A drawing may contain more than one part/assembly, but only one of these has the same ID of the drawing; this part/assembly is defined as the MAIN part of the drawing

Initialization of the archive

In order to start using the Link Mode the archive must be prepared so that all the documents are aligned as far as revision number and state are concerned.
For any group of documents ( parts and related drawings ) not aligned, a DBWorks Administrator will execute the following task:

If the revision value is HIGHER than the desired revision value, the administrator will use the MechworksPDM functionality to COLLAPSE the actual revision to a previous one.

If the revision value is LOWER than the desired revision value, the administrator will simply create new dummy revisions of the document until this will reach the desired revision value.

Behaviour of MechworksPDM when the Link Mode is activated

If the document belongs to a linked group of documents:

Action

Behaviour

Uncheckin

Any life-cycle action (new revision, checkout, checkin) can be started also from the PART side.
