The Local Mode allows you to work locally on your components, downloading/uploading them from/to a remote location.
There are two ways to use Local Mode:
•Working on Local Drives by using the Local Checkout Mode support
This is an extension of the Local Checkout Mode, so it must be used by EVERY designer in the network
Of course, it has the advantage to keep local the reference files that you may need for your design; on the other hand, it is affected by the usual problems of any "local copies" system, so DBWorks needs to keep synchronized the local copies with the shared archive.
•Working on Local Drives by using the Remote Access support
This is typically needed when few designers have the need to work locally for performance issues.
For example, on a network of 10 designers, only 1 or 2 needs this because they build the top level assemblies, while the rest has no performance issue since they work on parts or smaller sub-assemblies.
This mode can be activated only by the 1 or 2 designers that needs it.
